Photodetection Theory and Application Laboratory

Subordinating to School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering of Xidian University, our research laboratory is specialized in the research of photodetection theory and its application. Guided by the leading edge basic research and aiming at the key problems in engineering application, we are working on new ways of application of theory, method and technology, including light scattering of objects, laser atmospheric transmission characteristics, photoelectric signal detection and processing theory, laser radar, wireless optical communication and other research directions. Our laboratory aims to serve the national industry and national economy, through the scientific research and talent training, by building itself into a unique and innovative research base in the field of photodetection.
     Located at north campus of Xidian University, the laboratory owns various scientific research means: multiple optical experimental platforms, a variety of photodetection instruments and atmospheric turbulence environment simulation equipment. We have already developed several series of lidar detection principle system, permitting to carry out experiments independently.
      Our research team has a multidisciplinary background. The experienced academic backbones are composed of 3 professors, 2 associate professors, 2 lecturers and 1 engineer. Since 1980s, the team has been engaged in the study of electromagnetic wave/light wave propagation and scattering in complex objects and random media. Outstanding achievements have been made in the research of the target laser characteristic, and the basic theory of particle size measurement and its application.
      Our team has undertaken more than 20 national and ministerial level research projects in recent years. The typical projects are phased-array lidar technology, new system of lidar imaging, laser atmospheric transmission, adaptive optics technology, research of the theory and experiment of partially coherent optical communication in atmospheric channel and simulation of transmission characteristics of laser through atmospheric / space channels.
        In academic research, the team is focusing on the characteristics of laser atmospheric propagation, atmospheric turbulence simulation and experimental research, laser characteristics of complex objects, theory and application of small particle light scattering, 3D imaging lidar, phased array lidar, new quantum and thermo-optical correlation imaging, computational imaging and super-resolution imaging technology, and theoretical and experimental research on partially coherent optical communication and adaptive optics. More than 110 academic papers were published in leading journals in the field of optics at home and abroad, such as Phys. Rev. E, Appl. Opt, Opt. Commun., J. Opt. Soc. Am. A and J.Q.S.R.T, among which more than 30 articles were included by SCI.
    In terms of collaboration and exchange, the laboratory has established a long-term close relationship with several universities and research institutions at home and abroad. We have maintained close cooperation with the University of Rouen in France and the CORIA Institute of Science Research Centre in France in the field of scientific research and talent training. We have close project cooperation with other universities, research institutes and enterprises in the fields of aviation, aerospace.
       In terms of talent training, we pay a special attention to the cultivation of scientific research and innovation abilities. A wide range of domestic and foreign academic exchanges and cooperation platform are established to support and encourage our students to take active part in the international cooperation and exchanges, regular organization of academic discussion, which lays good foundation for the expansion of students' research perspective and the improvement of their research abilities. Graduates from our laboratory are popular at the job markets like universities, institutes and famous enterprises, for their solid theoretical foundation and strong research abilities.
        Based on scientific research and talent training, our laboratory will forge ahead, and strive to make new contribution to the development of photodetection technology in China.
